Established in 1937, the Santenay AOC status underscores the area's viticultural significance. The terroir comprises grayish limestone dominating the higher elevations up to 500 meters, transitioning into oolitic limestones, marls, and other geological formations lower down the slope. This diverse landscape, coupled with an optimal vineyard exposure ranging from east to south, contributes to the quality and complexity of the wines produced in the region.
