This special bottling is the counterpart to the Cuvée Nicolas Rolin. Both wines are sourced from the historic Hospices de Beaune charitable Wine Auction and both are very important to the history of Château de la Crée. Guigone de Salins was the wife of Nicolas Rolin - the founder of Château de la Crée in 1431. She inspired her husband to participate in works of charity and they created the historic Hospices de Beaune in 1443, a hospital for the less fortunate in Burgundy that continued as the hospital for the city of Beaune into the 1970’s. Even after her husband’s death in 1462 she continued to run the Hospices de Beaune until the end of her life and devoted herself to the comfort of the sick and less fortunate. We are extremely proud to offer this exceptional Cuvée under the Maison Evenstad label to pay homage to the co-creator of the cherished Hospices de Beaune. This blend of Beaune Premier Cru sites is composed of more than a half the respected Les Bressandes vineyard.
The nose gives notes of rendered bacon, spice nutmeg, black pepper, licorice, and pine. The palate is savory and overshadowed by big tannin. This wine is delicate with a strong full mouth. This full-bodied Pinot Noir exhibits smoky notes with a distinct herbal palate, and ends with a crisp, lingering finish. Pairs well with braised pork belly with balsamic reduction.
