To make Grand Cheval we take the best characteristics of two very different varietals, Syrah from Seven Hills and Southwind vineyards on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, and our own Pinot Noir grapes from the Dundee Hills, and blend them in perfect harmony to create our own version of the ideal “steakhouse wine.” This wine is substantial enough for the richest of dishes, yet soft enough to please any palate.

Representing the best of Oregon’s east and west wine growing regions, the 2017 vintage of Grand Cheval beautifully combines traits of both. Dark fruit and mocha envelope the palate, with firm but integrated tannins built to age. Bright acidity and a liveliness on the palate ensures balance. This wine is the quintessence of power and strength, while still speaking to its roots in Oregon.

The Story

About ‘Grand Cheval’

Grand Cheval is a cherished cornerstone of Domaine Serene created by our late co-founder Ken Evenstad that honors the legacy of his grandfather, a dedicated immigrant farmer who worked tirelessly alongside his loyal workhorse.

To make Grand Cheval we take the best characteristics of two very different varietals, Syrah from the Walla Walla Valley, and our own Pinot Noir grapes from the Dundee Hills, and blend them in perfect harmony to create our own version of the ideal “steakhouse wine.” This wine is substantial enough for the richest of dishes, yet soft enough to please any palate.
