Owned by Peter and Celia Kircher, Golden Valley makes outstanding hand-crafted beers and ales, maintains a very well run Brewpub restaurant, and with the recent addition of Angus Springs Ranch Natural Beef, is a veritable steakhouse as well!

A few years ago an idea was born to take the Kirchers’ commitment to quality to the next level by raising their own high quality natural Angus beef. The Kirchers purchased one of the oldest homestead ranches in Yamhill County just outside of McMinnville. Free from overcrowded conditions and conventional feedlots, Angus Springs Ranch cattle are tender raised on 96 acres of rolling, spring-fed pastures. As a part of the Kirchers’ sustainable farming practices, spent grain from the brewery provides an ideal fattening feed which is high in fiber and offers nearly twice the protein of conventional feeds. Their commitment to excellence assures no hormones or antibiotic feeds in the production of their beef. The steers are finished for more than six months on a premium program, much longer than feedlot finishing, which ensures beef of exceptional quality, tenderness and flavor.

Their special Angus Springs steak offerings include a 10oz top sirloin for $21.95, 12oz rib eye for $27.95, a 10oz New York strip for $26.95, and an 8oz filet mignon for $32.95. On Friday and Saturday nights Golden Valley features a 14oz or 10oz roasted prime rib ($24.95 and $20.95 respectively) from another natural beef producer, Misty Isle. Included is soup or salad, roasted garlic smashed potatoes, and fresh vegetables. A variety of steak toppings are available for an additional $2.00. All of the steaks and the prime rib are wonderful, but my favorite is the rib eye, seared medium rare.

If steak is not your thing, the Golden Valley brewpub menu includes a variety of appetizers, crisp, fresh entrée salads, fresh seafood, four pasta dishes, many piled-high sandwiches, and McMinnville’s best hamburgers, made exclusively from Angus Springs beef.

The wine list focuses mainly on Oregon wines and includes some of Yamhill County ’s best, including the “Evenstad Reserve” Pinot noir from Domaine Serene. The Golden Valley Brewery & Pub is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. - Ken Evenstad
